At American Montessori Academy our mission is to organically grow a healthier, happier, and more peaceful world. We begin by educating all of our children in how to be mindful and resolve conflicts in peaceful ways. Our unique peaceful education programming is integrated throughout the school day. As a result, AMA students begin to demonstrate complex problem solving skills at a young age.
Our rigorous, standards-based, academic program provides meaningful choice for students as they move along their unique learning paths.
Our Academics
Throughout the year we will use six different novel studies that will focus on the rigorous, standards-based units. Authentic writing assignments and projects will be tied to each novel.
Literacy
Students will follow the format of a writing workshop to complete five different essays. We will look at the components of a persuasive, personal narrative, informational, reesearch-based, and literary essays.
Writing
The grade level Common Core State Standards will be instructed with a Montessori based approach in a small group workshop format. Students will utilize Montessori materials, textbooks, project-based learning, and writing into their everyday math activities.
Mathematics
Science will focus on three units; Life, Earth, and Physical science.

Geography
The grade level GLCE will be instructed using the Oakland County Curriculum. The focus will be on World Geography, Culture, Civics, and Economics.
Peace Education
Peace Education will be ongoing throughout the year with team building activities. We will focus on a different character trait each month with an assembly and lessons to follow-up with in the classroom.
